                           "Is Your Church Healthy?"
                                      by Jim Newman
The current state of our nation’s economy has hit our churches hard. Everyone seems to be feeling the pinch to one degree or another. I have heard it said that this time can be compared to the Great Depression of the last century. None of this is news – and we’ve been hoping and praying for answers for a long time.
I wish I could tell you that I have all the answers, but I don’t. I can tell you this: many of the problems our churches are facing are not outside the church, but within. I believe this is a time that God is shaking “the tree” and trying to get our attention. I feel the church should be thriving, shining like a beacon on a hill, showing the world that God is great, alive and real. But, instead, we hear more about how our churches are struggling. What does this say to the world about the greatness of our God?
This is where a Healthy Church Consultation can help. We may not be able to fix the nation’s economy and other problems in the world, but there is help for the church from the inside out. My knowledge and experience, combined with that of other State consultants, can help churches look at themselves and build strategies for growth and good health. My job is to walk alongside pastors, and assist them and their congregation as they work to set and accomplish the necessary goals to make their church more effective for the Kingdom.
Ecclesiastes 4 speaks about the value of having others in our lives to help us. Galatians 6 talks about bearing the burdens of others. Pastoring can seem lonely at times, especially when the church is facing difficulties and challenges. In addition to pastor/church consultations, we can provide support for the pastor and the church. It is my hope that pastors will invite us to come alongside as we work together for the Kingdom in the East Bay.
